Job Description:

Performs accurate measurements of muscle strength in patients with varied neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders using manual techniques.

Performs goniometric measurement of joint range of motion.

Assesses patients' needs for functional training by performing functional (activities of daily living) tests including bed mobility, sitting and standing balance, safety precautions in teaching ambulation to patient.

Evaluates patients' needs for standard ambulation aids, uses correct methods for fitting the aid, instructs patient in correct use of aid, and utilizes essential safety precautions in teaching ambulation to patient.

Evaluates sensation of patient through physical examination for program planning and patient education.

Assesses need for and fit of orthotic/prosthetic devices.

Evaluates neurodevelopmental status utilizing observation of the performance of developmental activities and assessment of reflex integration.

Uses good body mechanics while handling equipment and working with patients.

Performs treatments designed to improve or maintain muscular strength and/or endurance with and without the use of equipment.

Demonstrates basic knowledge and understanding of infection control principles and sterile procedures

Teaches patients, families, and others to perform or assist with selected treatment procedures and functional activities.

Establishes priorities that will achieve defined physical and psychosocial goals of a therapeutic program.

Modifies the treatment program in keeping with the individual patient's response to it.

Qualifications:

Graduate of a school of Physical Therapy accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Currently licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of New Mexico.

1 or 2 years’ experience with specialties in one or more of the following areas: orthopedics, pediatrics, neurology, geriatrics, ergonomics, work conditioning

Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism when interacting with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff members.
